Aadhar Card is one of the hottest and the most trending topic in the nation presently. The Government of India is toiling day after day to bring in every last member of the population within the ambit of this identification system. The responsibility of attainment of this goal is being conferred upon UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) which is a central government agency having the objective of collection if biometric and demographic data of residents, store them in a centralised database and to issue a 12-digit unique identity number termed as “Aadhar” to each and every single resident out there.

The magnitude of the population that our country is afflicted with makes this campaign to be the world’s largest national identification number project. Well, with a gargantuan population if more than 1.25 billion people, UIDAI have managed to issue more than 1.07 billion Aadhar numbers. This elite and noble campaign is not only restricted to the residents but also warningly extends to the ones settled abroad, i.e., NRIs (Non-resident Indians). The availability of the facility of Aadhar card extends to Indian residents, NRIs and foreign nationals, regardless of their citizenship. The procedural obligations and documentation requirements are the identical to NRIs and Foreigners as they are to normal Indian residents. Any foreign citizen can apply for the Aadhar card as it is just meant to establish unique identity of the residents and Aadhar cards cannot be used as a proof of Indian Citizenship. Apart from the normal residents, NRIs and PIOs can also apply for the card and such card is given for free of cost.
